What is Digital Accessibility?
–
–
As of June 28, 2025, new regulations in the form of the European accessibility act will come into effect for many companies. In Germany, this EU directive is being transposed into the so-called BFSG (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz). This law focuses on the inclusion of people with disabilities. Companies will be required to design their products and services to be accessible to everyone. This particularly affects digital offerings such as websites, apps, and self-service terminals.
Many aspects play an important role in this context
–
- Design rules
- Clear contrasts, easily readable fonts, and intuitive navigation make usage easier for everyone.
- Text formatting
- Structured headings, well-readable paragraphs, and sufficient spacing improve readability.
- Alternative texts for images
- Image descriptions allow visually impaired individuals to capture content through screen readers.
- Keyboard operability
- All functions should be usable without a mouse, using only the keyboard.
- Screen reader compatibility
- Websites and apps must be programmed so that screen readers can correctly capture and read the content aloud.
- Real subtitles or transcripts for videos
- Accessible videos contain subtitles or written transcripts for people with hearing impairments.
Do I need to take action?
–
All providers of products or services for consumers are affected, except for micro-enterprises. If you’re unsure, you can quickly take the self-test. If you are affected by the BFSG or want to meet its requirements now, we are happy to assist with questions and advice. *
* This quick test serves as an initial guide and does not replace legal advice!
Why an accessible website?
–
Future-proof
Accessibility makes a website future-proof by meeting modern standards and remaining accessible to everyone. This ensures better user-friendliness and sustainably increases reach.
.
.
.
Robust
Technically robust websites are accessible because they function smoothly on various devices and with assistive technologies. They remain compatible in the long term and offer all users a reliable experience.

Risks
–
Failure to implement the new requirements risks warnings, high fines, and an order to cease electronic commerce.
Opportunities
–
With accessible content, you reach new user groups and position yourself as inclusive, informed, and future-oriented.
